Linux 3.11-rc7 Released
The seventh release candidate for Linux 3.11 is now available. The release marks the 22nd birthday of the Linux kernel. Linus Torvalds posted the following on Google Plus:
Hello everybody out there using Linux –
I’m doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, even if it’s big and professional) for 486+ AT clones and just about anything else out there under the sun. This has been brewing since april 1991, and is still not ready. I’d like any feedback on things people like/dislike in Linux 3.11-rc7.
I originally ported bash(1.08) and gcc(1.40), but others have taken over user space and things still seem to work. This implies that I’ll get the final 3.11 release within a week, and I’d like to know what features most people would want. Any suggestions are welcome, but I won’t promise I’ll implement them 🙂
Latest Distro Releases
Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS
Over the weekend, the third maintenance release for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS was made available. The release includes all of the updates made to Ubuntu 12.04 since its release. From the official release announcement:
The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce the release of Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS (Long-Term Support) for its Desktop, Server, Cloud, and Core products, as well as other flavours of Ubuntu with long-term support.
As with 12.04.2, 12.04.3 contains an updated kenrel and X stack for new installations on x86 architectures.
As usual, this point release includes many updates, and updated installation media has been provided so that fewer updates will need to be downloaded after installation. These include security updates and corrections for other high-impact bugs, with a focus on maintaining stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
